Abstract

The Encyclical Laudato SI’ reveals the message of taking care of the “Common Home” as a moral must of all inhabitants. However, it also mentions that there is a sector highly involved in this purpose: the universities. This academic article explores what it is issued in this Encyclical, under a State of the Art that has implied a careful review of it as of papers related to the topic, regarding
the higher education responsibility with the environment. From the reading of this Encyclical, some notions have been deducted alluding higher education in the role of taking care of the environment and encouraging a reflection on the matter, in order to
promote, as an ethical imperative, the human and Christian values from an academic perspective regarding the care of our planet.
